Problem with Facebook Bing Maps – when adding a ‘peg’ to a holiday destination on the Fb map, I found it put the place, a town in Italy, into a completely random place [with seemingly the same name] somewhere near Manchester, UK. Fb software will not let me change or delete it.

I wrote a post to answer your question. https://jenniferellisj.wpengine.com/fix-incorrect-facebook-location/
But essentially the answer is, if the location is incorrect on a specific page on Facebook somewhere, you can request a change to that page.

Thanks for the visuals! I too am concerned about privacy of the map. I have only one “check-in” on there — it was from a friend. He used the “F” word in the check-in location, and I can’t delete it. Unfortunately, when I follow your instructions, I am only given the option of sharing with friends or sharing with the friends of the guy who checked me in. Frustrating!

You can go into your main settings under privacy and turn off the ability for people to check you in.
