Update on Evictions in Pennsylvania During COVID-19

You may recall that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court put a stay on all evictions in Pennsylvania through May 11. Governor Wolf extended that stay through July 10. The stay covers evictions and foreclosures.

It is important to understand that rent and mortgages are still due during this time. If you cannot pay, you cannot be evicted or foreclosed upon right now. However, the time will come when such limits are lifted. At that point, you will be expected to catch up on your rent or mortgage.

If you are unable to pay your rent or mortgage now, you should communicate with your landlord or mortgage company. You do not want to be in a position where you are unable to pay on July 11th and your landlord or mortgage company begins proceedings against you. The best way to avoid trouble is to pay what you can while staying in touch with your landlord/mortgage company.

The same is true for all bills. Most companies are being very understanding right now. That will only last for so long though. Make sure you stay in touch with your creditors about what is going on.
