People are asking what I have decided to do with the Microsoft Surface. The answer is, I will be returning it. Not because I don’t like it, quite the contrary. But because I want the full version of the device that will enable me to run all of the programs I want to run.
My advice remains the same for most people. If you want a small device that can bridge the gap between tablet and laptop, if you just want to check email, surf the web, type documents, then the Microsoft Surface, as is, is just fine for you. I suggest you add the Hard Touch keyboard though. Take note, I think the Surface is a perfect holiday gift for students. It provides exactly what they need (secondary or post-secondary) to do their work.
I, and others, need to be able to run other software. People like me will need to wait for the Pro to do that. So I will just have to manage with my laptop for a while longer until the Pro comes out.
Now, we don’t yet know the pricing on the Pro. If the pricing is reasonable, I will buy it. If not, I will look at my options again. What is reasonable? Not quite sure yet. We’ll see.
Anyway, I’ll be calling Microsoft tomorrow to get the RMA to return the Surface. I’ll return the hard touch keyboard too. I don’t want to be stuck with a keyboard I cannot use if my plans change.
I will miss having The Surface. It was enjoyable to use. I even took it to a meeting and used it there, and it was perfect for that sort of use. I look forward to getting the Pro. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
When I do get the Pro Surface, I’ll write a new series of reviews. Thanks everyone for reading. I hope you have found my perspective useful.
